Nominating Committee Members: Position Description

General Overview

Work to develop a slate for presentation to the council delegate body at their annual meeting including board members-at-large, officers of the board, nominating committee members and (during those years national meetings are held) delegates and alternate delegates to the national Girl Scouts of the USA council session.

Major Responsibilities

1. Participate in orientation training and register as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA.
2. Become familiar with the council bylaws and especially those sections which refer to the board of directors, officers of the board, nominating committee and delegates to the national council.
3. Participate in committee meetings and elect a chair for the committee.
4. Secure names of nominees from all available sources for those positions which need to be filled.
5. Review qualifications for various positions and attempt to match skills with current vacancy needs.
6. Gather and review information on prospective candidates, keeping this information and committee discussions confidential.
7. Contact prospective candidates to ascertain their interest and ability to serve.
8. As possible, meet with prospective candidates for an interview.
9. As prospective candidates have questions or require further clarification regarding their potential participation, ensure they receive support materials and follow up.
10. Participate in committee discussions to select those persons who have the necessary skills and are willing and capable of serving.
11. Prepare a single slate of nominees with biographical information about candidates to be presented at the council’s annual meeting.
12. Keep confidential all information that is confidential in nature which is not yet ready for public release.
13. Ensure follow up calls and/or letters are made/sent to those candidates to be submitted as nominees at the annual meeting.
14. Summarize all information gathered on all contacts made to be included in the nominating committee files which are maintained at the council service center.
15. Perform other duties which may be assigned by the committee chair that will aid in fulfillment of the nominating committee goals and objectives.
